Prof. Jose Maria Gutierrez from the Faculty of Education, University of Cadiz, visited the Lodge to deliver a lecture on "Teaching Statistics with the Computer". WIT has a link agreement with the University of Cadiz and frequently receives visits from colleagues from that Institution. In addition, WIT is holding important conferences in Cadiz in 2002 (ie Brownfields and Waste Treatment).
Jose Maria is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Education and has worked for many years on Applied Statistics Problems. During his talk, he described a computer code designed by his group which renders statistics a simple tool to use by any student or researcher. The versatility of the programme and its easy use makes it an ideal tool for training, even for students with little mathematical background. The code is fully interactive and has an excellent number of different examples.
The programme is being extended to cover other statistical applications and different types of distribution.
