Overview

Urban and Maritime Transport 2022

With the main objective to preserve our delegates’ wellbeing, but also with the belief that the international contacts among the scientific community should not be stopped, WIT decided that this conference should not take place as scheduled in Valencia, Spain, but take place as an online event instead.

The conference was organised by the Wessex Institute, UK represented by Prof Giorgio Passerini and the University of Rome, La Sapienza, Italy represented by Prof Stefano Ricci.

This conference merged two successful events organised by the Wessex Institute, the International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment which started in Southampton in 1995 and the International Conference on Maritime Transport which originated in Rome, Italy in 2019.

The continuing requirement for better urban transport systems and the need for a healthier environment creates a fertile setting for original ideas, innovative approaches and applications of advanced technologies, their tests and evaluations in practice. Moreover, there is a growing need for integration with IT systems and applications to improve safety and efficiency.

Maritime Transport is highly interconnected with rail, road and air services, as well as inland waterways. Each of these must therefore operate complimentary of one another to maximise efficiency and respond rapidly to variable economic and political contingencies.

Opening of the Conference

The conference was opened by Prof Giorgio Passerini, Wessex Institute Board of Directors, who welcomed the delegates to the event on behalf of all the Chairs.

Q&A Live Zoom Sessions

Conference Publication

Papers presented at this conference are published in Volume 212 of the WIT Transactions on The Built Environment (Electronic ISSN: 1743-3509). Papers presented at the meeting are available Open Access in the eLibrary of the Wessex Institute (https://www.witpress.com/elibrary) from where they can be freely downloaded by any interested parties.

Closing of the Conference

We are very sorry that we were not able to meet our delegates in person this time, but hope that we will be able to do so at a future event.
