Introduction
The International Conference on Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods (BEM/MRM), founded by the Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT) in 1978, has attracted high quality researchers and papers since its founding. The 48th Edition of the conference (BEM/MRM 48) will be held in Dalian China, as an affiliated conference with WIT.
Since 1978, the conference has advanced numerical methods for engineering applications that reduce modeling dimensions, such as the Boundary Element Method (BEM), or reduce mesh for discretization, such as meshless methods. The meeting welcomes all academic and industrial stakeholders interested in the methods, and particularly the participation of young researchers.
The meetings have produced a collection of edited volumes in which major developments in the field have been reported. This valuable series has been offered in digital form since 1993, with all papers Open Access available in the Wessex Institute’s eLibrary website (www.witpress.com/elibrary), where they can be easily accessed and downloaded for free.

Location

Dalian, known as the "Oriental Pearl" and the "City of Romance," is a coastal gem in north eastern China where rich culture and stunning nature come together. It’s a top international spot, blending history, art, and modern vibes - perfect for cultural exchange and tourism.
October is the best time to visit! The weather is mild, and outdoor spots like Russian Street, Xinghai Square, and Binhai Road (with its amazing Yellow Sea views) shine even brighter. Museums and galleries show off East-West influences, while Lvshun Old Town’s historic buildings and autumn-colored streets feel like stepping into a storybook. Don’t miss the fall foliage at Xijiazi Red Maple Valley or Xijiao National Park, plus local seafood markets and art fairs. Whether you’re exploring history, enjoying nature, or tasting treats, Dalian promises an unforgettable trip!
