Professor Carlos A Brebbia, Director of Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT), UK, was recently invited to give a talk at Poznan Technical University in Poland to a group of senior members of staff. Professor Brebbia started by explaining the activities of WIT UK and its focus on linking academia and industry. The Institute’s functions are:
Since its foundation in 1986, the Institute has expanded in terms of staff and facilities. Its Campus in the New Forest National Park in the UK has a wide variety of excellent accommodation for visitors and students, as well as sport facilities and other amenities. Comfortable offices and beautiful surroundings provide an ideal environment for teaching, research and development. WIT STRATEGY The current strategy of WIT is to develop more collaborative activities with partners from all over the world. This has been achieved by arranging joint post-graduate programmes with a series of well known universities. These programmes, which can be taken partly in the country of origin and partly at WIT, have been highly successful. WIT’s strategy has been to complement rather than compete with other university institutes, and this has led to close collaboration with universities all over the world. WIT / POLSKA Goluchow, in the neighbourhood of Kalisz has been identified as an ideal place for setting up a WIT Centre, based on its central geographical location and easy access. Goluchow in particular, will be most appropriate as, in many ways it is similar to the location of WIT UK, which is situated in the New Forest National Park. The training and research carried out at WIT/Polska will be on the following topics:
As time progresses, these topics will be expanded to take into account the regional requirements. The intention is for WIT/Polska to be a focus of development and advanced research. Professor Brebbia’s address was followed by a series of questions related to WIT’s proposal. |
