Mrs. Eitidal Al Bassam
The aim of the investigation is to estimate the benefits of using public school buses on energy consumption, environment, road transport and human health in Kuwait. The work will aim to quantify the pollutants emitted from the cars next to a limited number of selected schools on a daily basis (every 5 min readings) in addition to counting the number of cars in the roads around the selected schools.

The measurement will be performed during one week in summer and one week in winter for each selected school. Statistical analysis of the results will be performed to establish a link between the variation in the levels of air pollution during the day and the traffic frequency in the vicinity of the schools. The level of reduction of traffic will be estimated in order to satisfy the air pollution law for Kuwait.

Numerical modelling using CALINE will be performed in order to establish the link between the frequency of vehicles in vicinity of schools and air quality. CALINE allows for the roads to be modelled as line sources and the source will be defined by the vehicle frequency, which will be measured, and the average emission.

Literature survey will be performed in order to collect data on causality of effects of air pollution on health. The saving in energy due to wider use of public school busses will be estimated.
