Course PresentersProf Roland Pusch studied at the Royal Technical Institute (KTH), where he obtained his PhD in soil mechanics; he also obtained a PhD in geology from Stockholm University. Up to the mid 70’s Prof Pusch was an Associate Professor in soil mechanics and foundation engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, after which he was Professor at the Luleå University of Technology until 1982. He has been a guest Professor at that University since 2010 and adjunct professor from December this year. He is currently Managing Director and staff leader of the private enterprise Drawrite AB. During his professional career Prof Pusch was the chief engineer at the construction of Sweden’s largest channel construction project (Lindökanalen, Norrköping). Following that he was the head of the geotechnical department at Allmänna Ingenjörsbyrån (AIB), Stockholm and then the head of the research division of the governmental Swedish Geotechnical Institute dealing with slope stability and stress/strain issues concerning the Göta River valley. He was also a consultant to Jacobsen & Widmark, dealing with the foundation of most of the bridges along the main E22 road the county of Blekinge. He has established several of his own companies, the latest of which is Drawrite AB in Lund for international geotechnical consultancy. He has also been involved in several international projects dealing with landfills of hazardous ash and deposition of highly radioactive waste.
Prof Viktor Popov, who completed his PhD at WIT, is Professor and Head of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Division at WIT. He has over 20 years of research experience in environmental modelling, computational fluid dynamics, and environmental research and protection. Prof Popov has participated in a number of research and industrial projects, some of them funded by the European Commission (FP4 – FP7), in several of them as an environmental risk assessment task leader, and one NATO SfP project, related to watershed protection and management, as the NATO Country Project Director. He is the principal author of one book and several chapters in books, co-editor of several books and author or co-author of over one hundred scientific papers. He is a member of the editorial board of several International Journals. His main research interests include: Environmental Modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Environmental Risk Assessment, Waste Management, High Performance Computing and Simulations.
Dr Robert Adey is the Director of Strategic Development for C M BEASY Ltd and Head of Industrial Research at Wessex Institute Of Technology He received his PhD in Numerical Simulation from Southampton University. Dr Adey has been involved in a wide range of engineering projects for numerous companies including BP, Corrpro, Shell, Halliburton, NRL, NSWC, AIRBUS etc. Projects have resulted in further development of software tools to assess the performance of cathodic protection systems, the risk of galvanic corrosion and the simulation of the growth of crack like defects for offshore structures, naval vessels and aircraft. He is the author of the book “Modelling of Cathodic Protection Systems” and is co-author of the new book “Aluminium Alloy Corrosion of Aircraft Structures: Modelling and Simulation”. |
