 Travelling By Air

Tallinn airport is only 4km from Tallinn itself with good transport links to the city centre. A number of major airlines currently fly to Tallinn from most major European cities, with Estonia Air and Air Baltic offering comprehensive services across Europe. Other airlines that presently fly to Tallinn include:

  • Easyjet – regular flights are available between London Stansted and Tallinn, and between Berlin Schoenfeld and Tallinn
  • KLM flys frequently between Amsterdam and Tallinn
  • Lufthansa operates flights between Frankfurt and Tallinn
  • From Norway, Nowegian flies from Oslo and Tallinn
  • Finnair flys from Helsinki and Tallinn
  • Czech Airlines – operate flights between Prague and Tallinn
  • City Airlines fly between Gotenburg and Tallinn
  • From Austria, Austrian Airlines flies between Vienna and Tallinn

From Tallinn airport, a taxi to the city centre will cost around 80-100 Kroons(EEK) for the short journey, otherwise a convenient bus travels every 20-50 minutes from the airport to the centre of the old town. The number two bus costs around 15 EEK.

 Travelling By Land

International bus lines connect Tallinn to various European cities. Both international and domestic bus services arrive and depart from Tallinn's Central Bus Station, located in the city centre.

Tallinn is served by numerous bus routes with Eurolines and Ecolines from many other European cities. The main bus station can be found approximately 1km from the town centre, and services to all parts of the city connect regularly with this station.

 Travelling By Sea

The Tallinn-Helsinki sea-lane is one of the busiest international passenger routes in the world. There are ferries between Tallinn and Helsinki several times a day with a travel time of approximately four hours. There are also ferries between Tallinn and Stockholm, which depart every evening and take approximately fifteen hours journey time.

 Travelling in Tallinn

Buses, trams, and minibuses operate from 6am to midnight everyday. If you do decide to travel by public transport make sure you have a valid ticket or buy one from the driver. It should be noted that tickets are cheaper if bought before boarding the bus, 10 EEK compared with 15 EEK. It is also possible to buy a ticket package for 70 EEK.

Taxis can be hailed on the street and can typically be found at major intersections and in front of bigger hotels. Alternatively you can also phone and pre-book. The starting fare is 12-25 EEK, and the price for 1 km is approximately 7 EEK. Minimum fare is 35 EEK. To avoid being overcharged you should make sure that the meter is turned on and at the end of the ride you should ask for a receipt.
