Ashurst Lodge is situated only 10km west of the centre of Southampton, located off the A35 between Ashurst and Lyndhurst where it is well signed from the main road. It has excellent rail connections with London (100km) and it is reasonably close to the two main international airports in Britain - Heathrow (90km) and Gatwick (120km). A good train service connects Southampton to Waterloo Station in London where Eurostar departs for Paris and Brussels.

If you decide to continue your journey to Southampton by coach, a single ticket will cost approximately £15.00. If you decide to book you should do so in advance. Alternatively BAA's Heathrow Express is a non-stop train service to London Waterloo station, where you can catch a train to Ashurst New Forest (see by train). If you decide to hire a car there are various companies operating at Heathrow. Ashurst Lodge is approximately 90km from the airport. If you would prefer to travel by taxi from Heathrow to Ashurst Lodge you should expect to pay a considerable amount (ask before booking the taxi). Coaches also connect Gatwick to most major towns and cities in the UK including Southampton. The cost of travelling by coach to Southampton is approximately £22.00 for a single ticket. If you decide to book you should do so in advance. The rail station at Gatwick's South Terminal provides connections to all of the UK's rail network and is conveniently integral to the airport. It can also be reached easily from the North Terminal via a transit train link should you be travelling to and from this terminal. Ashurst New Forest station can easily be reached either via Southampton Central station or London Waterloo. If you decide to rent a car on arrival there are various companies operating at Gatwick. Ashurst Lodge is approximately 120km from the airport. If you would prefer to travel by taxi from Gatwick to Ashurst Lodge you should expect to pay a considerable amount (ask before booking the taxi). If you decide to continue your journey by train, Southampton Airport (Parkway) Station is less than 50 metres from the airport terminal where you should look for a train which is scheduled to stop at Ashurst New Forest, or alternatively travel to Southampton Central and take a taxi (see by train). The airport has excellent connections to the road network and is located approximately one mile from Junction 4 of the M27 motorway and only four miles from the centre of Southampton. If you choose to rent a car on arrival, there are various companies operating at the airport. Bournemouth International Airport is located 10 to 15 minutes travel time from Bournemouth city centre. From the airport you can take a bus to Bournemouth Train Station (see by train). Alternatively you can take a taxi from the airport - the average cost of a taxi to Ashurst Lodge is approximately £40. You may prefer to rent a car on arrival, there are various companies offering hire cars from the airport. It should be noted that not all trains stop at Ashurst New Forest (especially the 'fast' trains) - see from Ashurst. Alternatively you may travel to Southampton Central and then take a taxi from this station to Ashurst Lodge - see from Southampton Central Train Station. From Southampton Central Train Station Alternatively you may choose to walk the relatively short distance through the forest to the Lodge. However this is not recommended if you have luggage, as it will take you approximately 40 minutes to reach the Lodge on foot along the main road.
Wilts and Dorset buses also run a frequent bus service connecting Southampton Central Train Station to Ashurst and other destinations in the New Forest. It is worth noting that these bus services may be reduced in the evenings and at the weekend. |
