 Location

ostend_1The Flemish coast which stretches for 67km from Knokke-Heist in the East to De Panne in the West offers, 13 resorts along the North Sea of which Ostend is the largest. Ostend is the only true city on the coast and has 9km of sandy beaches. The city started to grow due to the attention it received from the first two Belgian Kings, Leopold I and Leapold II, who both spent a vast amount of their summers in Ostend. This attracted more of aristocratic Belgium and Ostend became known as “The Queen of the Belgian sea-side resorts” and transformed it into a fashionable 19th century resort. Ostend is now a major Belgian city with a population of around 70,000 people offering various activities and attractions for visitors including modern day marinas, shops, museums and Belgian gastronomy in its many restaurants.

Weather

Belgium does not tend to experience extreme changes in temperature and general weather during the year - however April to September is regarded as the warmest time. Visitors to the area should however be prepared for damp weather no matter what time of the year you visit.
