 Location

ekaterinburg_2Ekaterinburg is the fourth largest city in Russia and is situated on the border of Europe and Asia. Located 1,667 kilometres east of Moscow, with a population of 1.3 million, it is surrounded by partially wooded plains and small lakes. The heart of Ekaterinburg is formed around a dam which was initially erected in 1723, and is the most important and significant historical structure in the city. On one side the dam forms a lake, which provides recreation in the summer, while on the other side the Iset River threads through the city with walkways and parks along its banks. The city is steeped in Russian history, with several dozen library’s and over 30 museums. It is known in modern history as the place where Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia and his family lost their lives.
