 Travel Information

The following three airports are closest to Siena:
  • Florence ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ Airport (80km)
  • Pisa ‘Galileo Galilei’ Airport (172km)
  • Rome Fiumicino Airport (266km)

 

From Florence ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ Airport to the conference venue

Airlines flying to Florence include:

  • Air Berlin – Stuttgart
  • Austrian Airlines – Vienna
  • Air France – Paris & Lyon
  • Brussels Airways – Munich & Frankfurt
  • Meridiana – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Helsinki, London Gatwick & Madrid

From Florence Airport you will need to take a bus or taxi to the main rail station in Florence. The Volainbus shuttle service connects directly to Florence city centre departs twice every hour, costing €5 for a single ticket, and takes approximately 30 minutes travelling time. From here you can either travel by train, or bus to Siena.

  • By Rail: After arriving at the main rail station in Florence, you can take a train to Siena. It takes up to two hours travelling time and will cost approximately €5. Further information on times can be found here http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html. Once you have arrived in Siena you can take a taxi for the final part of your journey.
  • By Bus: The bus station is a short walk from the main rail station in Florence. Buses leave twice every hour and will take approximately one hour in travelling time. The bus ‘Rapida’ will take you directly to Siena, where you can take a taxi for the remainder of your journey.

 

From Pisa ‘Galileo Galilei’ Airport to the conference venue

Pisa Airport is served by several major airlines offering regular flights from airports across Europe, as well as from New York (JFK) with Delta Airlines.

European flights direct to ‘Galileo Galilei’ airport include:

  • EasyJet - Paris, Berlin Schoenfeld, Stockholm, Oslo (Torp), London Gatwick & Bristol
  • Ryanair - From many European cities including Dublin, Frankfurt, Eindhoven, Bilund & Porto, as well as most airports in the UK and Spain
  • British Airways – London Heathrow & Gatwick
  • Other airlines – Tansavia (Amsterdam), Nowegian (Oslo & Copenhagen), Vueling (Barcelona) & Iberia (Madrid)

Once you have arrived at Pisa Airport you should take a train directly from the airport.

  • By Rail: There are two options for the train, the first has two changes and the second, three. The first train departs from Pisa Airport every 2 hours and takes approximately 2 and a half hours. The train goes from Pisa Airport to Florence (Firenze) where you can then change for Siena. The second train departs from Pisa Airport every hour, the first change is at Pisa Central and the second change is at Empoli which is bound for Siena. From Siena you will have to take a taxi for the final part of the journey.

 

From Rome Fiumicino Airport to the conference venue

If travelling from outside Europe, Rome Fiumicino Airport offers flights to all major international destinations worldwide and offers good transport connections for onward travel.

  • By Rail: Leaving from Roma Termini, the main rail station in Rome, take a train to Siena. You have to change at Chiusi and the total journey time can take up to three hours. From Siena train station you can take a taxi for the final part of your journey.
  • By Bus: An express train service runs from the airport to the main rail station, Roma Termini, every 30 minutes. From here you take a train to Roma Tiburtina where the SENA bus departs. The bus journey will take approximately 3 hours.
