ExcursionA special technical visit has been arranged to the Plocan Centre. There the delegates will be given a presentation describing the project objectives. The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (Plocan) is a multi-purpose technical-scientific service infrastructure composed of a set of large facilities that provides support from research, technological development and innovation in the ocean. The aim of Plocan is to help promote excellence in marine science and technology. The Platform is located in a zone especially well suited to meteorological and oceanographic studies in the confluence of the North African upwelling and the Canary Current. This is a unique region of the world due to its biodiversity. Delegates will have occasion to visit the building supporting the work to be carried out on the Platform, which is under construction. They will see some of the numerous activities to be undertaken by Plocan, including those in the field of ocean renewable energy, ROVs (including some gliders on site), multiparameter large buoys and others). |
