 Introduction

AFM_200x250_2AFM 2012 is the ninth International Conference on Advances in Fluid Mechanics. The conference is reconvened following the success of all previous meetings. The first conference in this series took place in New Orleans, USA (1996); followed by Udine, Italy (1998); Montreal, Canada (2000); Ghent, Belgium (2002); Lisbon, Portugal (2004); Skiathos, Greece (2006); the New Forest, UK (2008); and the Algarve, Portugal (2010).

The field of fluid mechanics is vast and has numerous and diverse applications. The conference will cover a wider range of topics, including basic formulations and their computer modelling as well as the relationship between experimental and analytical results. The emphasis is on new applications and research currently in progress.

Delegates attending Advances in Fluid Mechanics 2012 will be invited to submit an extended version of their paper for possible publication in the International Journal of Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements , one of the six edited by the Wessex Institute.

The object of the meeting is to provide a forum for discussing new work in fluid mechanics and in particular for promoting the interchange of new ideas and the presentation of the latest applications in the field.
